Alert Magazine - Golden West Publications - $500.00 scholarship to a senior who writes an essay about drug abuse - either a personal encounter or someone you know.  How it was dealt with, what you learned, and what you thought was right or wrong about the way it was handled.  650 - 800 words. FEBRUARY

La Grande High School Class of ’58 Scholarship-Awarded to LHS students who are attending Eastern Oregon University in the Fall of 2018. Must have GPA no less than 2.25.

EOU ASTEO Scholarship- Receive up to $7,500 annually for tuition and fees for four years. Applicants must major in biology, chemistry-biochemistry, computer science or mathematics (excludes Healthcare & Education majors).  Must submit a SAT math score of 550+ or an ACT math score of 25+ and must submit the FAFSA application.

Elk National Foundations Legacy Award-   $4,000 scholarships ($1,000 per year for four years). The Foundation will offer a total of up to 250 awards.  Any child or grandchild (or stepchild, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2011, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2011, is eligible to apply.

OTEC Scholarship - *(Local)*- Multiple $5,000 awarded.  Must receive electric service from OTEC, plan to attend an accredited institution, a minimum of 3.0 GPA, three letters of recommendation, must have held at least a part-time, summer job, internship or a regular volunteer position during the past year.

Oregon Wheat Foundation Scholarship -  Twelve $1,000 scholarships awarded to students who have a family member involved in, or employed by the Oregon Wheat Growers League.  Could also have worked part time for a wheat producer member of the OWGL. Must be planning to attend a two or four year college. Judged on community involvement, academic achievement and an essay on a wheat industry topic.

Al Forthan Memorial Scholarship - $10,000 (allocated over four years) scholarship and several others will be given to Oregon students from families impacted by drug and alcohol addiction.  Based on character, community service, and must answer five essay questions regarding solutions to addiction.

The Seneca Scholarship- $10,000 awarded. Based solely on a 5-7 page research essay.  The essay should be themed around, but not limited to, this question: “What are the benefits of forest management for the forest and for the community?”  Must hold three in-person interviews with people who are connected to the Natural Resource Industry.

Greenfield Peace Writing Scholarship-  First prize awarded $1,000.  Any 11th or 12th grade Oregon high school student may enter by submitting an original essay, poem, or narrative work (maximum 600 words) in response to the following writing prompt and question: "How can you work against systemic racism to help make our world more healthy and peaceful?"

Better Business Bureau Foundation’s Scholarship-   Two scholarships offered. Up to $10,000 awarded.  Must have 3.0 or higher GPA. One scholarship is to create a 90-second video explaining how Better Business Bureau helps people become smart consumers. The other is write a 500-word essay for BBB’s online magazine Torch Talk. The topic of the essay is,  Why BBB and Trust are Important to Local Businesses and Communities.

Soroptimist International of La Grande Professional/Tech Scholarship- (*LOCAL*) Up to $2,000 awarded to a resident of Union county who plans to enroll in a two year technical or vocational program.  Certificate programs are also eligible. You must have established career goals, evidence of community service, and establish financial need.  Two letters of reference and an essay required.

Soroptimist Union County High School Scholarship  (*LOCAL*)-  $2500 awarded to a graduating senior female of Union County.  Must be attending a four year institution, preference given to students enrolled to  Eastern Oregon University in the Fall of 2019. Two letters of recommendation, essay and resume required.

DeWuhs-Keckritz Educational Trust (*LOCAL*) - One boy and one girl will be chosen from Union and Wallowa counties to receive a $5,000 scholarship.  Must be a senior who has earned at least 15 credits in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades to include a minimum of two courses in math, two in science, and either a year of foreign language or a year of computer science.  GPA, SAT/ACT scores and leadership are key elements for selection. Three reference letters are required and a 250 word essay on your educational goals.

Clear Alliance Scholarship- At least $500 awarded to an alcohol and drug-free graduating high school student who is pursuing higher education at a University, Community College, or Trade School in Oregon. One to two page essay required and one letter of recommendation.

La Grande High School Class of 1961 Scholarship - (*LOCAL*)  Two $500 scholarships awarded to two La Grande High School graduates.  Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. An explanation of financial need, one letter of recommendation, resume and a 100 word essay explaining your educational plans after high school and your long term goals for employment is required.

Nyssa-Nampa Sugarbeet Growers Association Scholarship-  Two $1000 scholarships will be given to seniors who are dependents (children/grandchildren) of Snake River Sugar Company LLC Cooperative members- growers who deliver sugarbeets to the Nampa sugar factory.

Valley Insurance Scholarship - (*LOCAL*)  Four- $1,000 scholarships awarded to graduating seniors in Union county. Must have 3.0 GPA or higher. Based on leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, honors and awards. 500-word essay required. One of the scholarship will be awarded to a student attending EOU.

NEOHBA (Northeast Oregon Home Builders Association)- Two $1,500 awarded to help educate and train individuals in a “Profession” related to the building industry. The scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of his/her potential to succeed.

La Grande Lions Dale Wyatt Memorial Scholarship (*LOCAL*)-  One $1000 or two $500 scholarships (amount is subject to change) will be given to a LHS current graduate or previous graduate in good standing who is planning on attending EOU.  Essay in 500 words or less describing your career goals and an impact on your life regarding community service.

May

Mid-Columbia Bus Scholarship  (*LOCAL*)-  Two $500 scholarship will be awarded to LHS seniors based on GPA, SAT/ACT scores, extracurricular activities, work and community service, AP classes taken, and reference letters from two educators.  Answers to three short essay questions are required.

Riveria Elementary Scholarship- (*LOCAL*) $350 (amount subject to change) will be awarded to a LHS senior who is attending a college/university or trade/vocational school in the fall of 2017. Preference will go to a senior living in the former boundaries of Riveria Elementary school (a.k.a. Kid’s Club). The boundaries are north of Adams Ave. and west of Depot Street.  Must have an unofficial transcript and an essay about your post-secondary plans.

Ruth Crouse Kilby Memorial Scholarship - (*LOCAL*) $500-$650 scholarship to one male and one female graduate from LHS.  Based on leadership, community service, and a 250 - 350 word essay on the following topic: “It’s not about what you’ve done . . . What are you going to do?”  GPA 3.0 or better.  Transcript and two letters of recommendation plus personal statement of financial need.
