Carleigh Radke has been wrestling since she was about five years old. She is currently competing on the La Grande High School Girls Wrestling Team. She also competes with the Team Oregon National Team during off season, where she won freestyle and Greco state championships.
Radke’s parents introduced her to the sport, and her dad wrestled for Walla Walla High School.
“I love the community, the friendships and the camaraderie. I also just love the sport, I think it’s kind of what makes me, me. As far as personality traits, my favorite thing about myself is that I wrestle,” Radke said.
She also said she loves the adrenaline when she is about to compete and when she’s on deck, thinking about how she is going to execute certain moves.
As an LHS Tiger, last year Radke got second place at high school regionals, but did not place at state. Her LHS season is off to a good start this year. Earlier in December, she placed first at the Oregon Trail Championship in Echo and first at the Knife River Invitational in Scappoose. At the recent Safeway Buckle Classic, which Radke won her freshman year, she placed second.
The LHS Girls Wrestling team has 20 athletes competing this year, and they will fly to their next tournament in California before Winter Break. Good luck, Lady Tigers!
