grass and a sun with "Summer Programs" 2021

The La Grande School District has received grant funding from the state to provide targeted and elective summer programming options that will benefit students and families at no cost.

LGSD staff have developed over 50 summer camp experiences for La Grande students. Options include music, math, science, art, and sports camps. Space is limited so parents are encouraged to register early to lock in their spot. Camps will automatically close when they reach student capacity to avoid confusion and frustration. For more information and to register, visit lagrandesd.org/summer.

LGSD has partnered with Head Start, Cook Memorial Library and other agencies to provide weekly literacy picnics for La Grande students PreK-Grade 2. There is no registration required and families are encouraged to attend together during this facilitated program. Literacy Picnics are Wednesdays in June and in August from 12:15 - 1:15 pm and are held at all LGSD elementary schools.

High school credit recovery and original credit options are available free of charge this summer. LGSD's goal is to make sure all LGSD high school students are on-track for graduation and able to move into the 2021-22 school year confidently. Registration opens May 10th and classes start on June 14th. Classes will be provided through an online format but students will be required to check-in with staff regularly and attend lab times for successful completion of summer courses. Students and parents need to visit with their school counselor and/or administration to access courses and determine what classes would best meet their individual needs.

The La Grande School District's driver education program (La Grande Drives!) will offer an in-person summer course. Space is limited and registration opens on May 10th. For more information on this program, please contact Matt Wolcott at matt.wolcott@lagrandesd.org or go to www.lagrandesd.org/lgdrives.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on students. LGSD's K-8 JumpStart and Freshman Academy programs are designed to offer targeted support to students that have been identified as needing additional assistance for academic success. Teachers and administrators will be reaching out to parents of identified students during May and June to discuss this program. Both programs focus on front-loading essential skills for grade-level success, building relationships, and developing routines for success in a small and fun environment.

LGSD has partnered with La Grande Parks and Recreation to offer childcare this summer at a discounted rate for La Grande students and families. Through a state of Oregon grant, LGSD is able to pay 75% of the $100 weekly fee associated with this program. For more information, please go to lagrandeparks.org.

LGSD is very excited to provide multiple opportunities for students and families to engage with La Grande School District, our staff, and student peers.
